Zink Shirts, 19 E. Cayuga St., invites the community for the opening reception showcasing the artwork of talented local artist, Cayetano Valenzuela.

The reception will be held from 7-9 p.m, Friday, Aug. 9, and includes special musical guest, Relish the Tilt.
signs and spectersValenzuela describes his exhibit, entitled Signs and Specters, as largely pop surrealism and said it will feature figurative works dealing with magic and memory.
"The art work is a mix the work I do," he said. "For example, oils and acrylic on wood panels or canvas as well as prints."
Because he is also interested in typography and hand lettering, Valenzuela will also be displaying his sign painting work as well. "I make custom signs for home and businesses under the name Black Rabbit Studio," he said.
Valenzuela said he has been showing in Syracuse and around the country in galleries in Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco and San Antonio. But, he said, it has been a while since he has had a show in his hometown of Oswego.
"I have been blessed with the support of my Oswego community, so when Glenn approached me about doing a show at Zink, I was excited to do it," he said. "Some of my friends have played music shows there and I was happy to see something (in Oswego) that is geared toward toward a younger, creative crowd."
Zink Shirts, a multi-purpose space used for custom screen printing, art and musical events, is owned by Glenn Zansitis, who said he is a strong believer that art and music need to be incorporated into a community as much as possible.
"Everybody needs a way to display their artistic talent and this is a way to bring people together in a very cultural and artistic way," he said. "It's my way of giving back to the community I live in."
     Gallery hours for Signs and Specters are: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Friday; and 12-6 p.m. Saturdays.
