On Oct. 15, World Hospice Day, two local civic-minded motorcycle clubs, the Oswego County Comets, RC and Oswego County Station 1438 Fire & Iron, MC, met at the New Haven Fire Department with representatives of the Friends of Oswego County Hospice, Inc. to present to them checks totaling over $3,000. The checks represented the proceeds realized from the clubs' combined efforts on their Handlebars for Hospice fundraising ride that was held Sept. 26.

Friends of Oswego County Hospice, Inc. is an entity committed to supporting Oswego County Hospice through public awareness, professional education and financial assistance for all families in need during a loved one's final moments. The Handlebars for Hospice event was organized as a way to give back to this very important community resource, as we have all been touched by the kindnesses, help and support offered by Oswego County Hospice at some point in our lives.

On behalf of all the members of both clubs and the co-chairs, Jeff Beardslee and Dale Thomas, we would like to extend grateful thanks to all who gave generously for this great cause either by providing donations for our auction or in helping and participating in this inaugural event.

Special plaques were given to Friends of Oswego County Hospice, as well as the New Haven and Redfield Fire Departments as our show of appreciation for all of their support, which made our event a huge success.
