Local merchants and community members alike come together in support of the upcoming "Love Our Lighthouse Day", an event being held by the H. Lee White Maritime Museum. The goal of this day dedicated to Oswego's beloved lighthouse is to re-ignite the spark with which residents once acclaimed the former protector of Oswego's shores. The event, an auction which will feature various items, will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 11-4 pm at the American Foundry, 246 West Seneca St. in Oswego.

Members of the Lighthouse Auction Committee have been vigorously working to generate excitement across Central New York, and help people see why it is so important to keep the West Pierhead Lighthouse a symbol of our community and great lake. The auction will feature a brief presentation at 11:30 am allowing attendees to learn about the lighthouse preservation project.

Those who attend the event can also expect refreshments, which will be available for purchase and a wide variety of items that will be auctioned off throughout the day. High-ticket items include a stunning Lighthouse necklace provided by DuFore's Jewelers and a trip to Las Vegas valued at $2,500 donated by Dr. Michael and Mrs. Edie NuPuf. The SUNY Oswego Men's Hockey Team has also donated a hockey stick signed by all 31 players, which will be auctioned off the day of the event as well. A silent auction section will feature items ranging from gift certificates to wine baskets provided by local establishments and individuals. The proceeds made through the "Love Our Lighthouse Day" event will be utilized by the H. Lee White Maritime Museum to renovate one of our city's iconic monuments.

A unique item offered will be the above-pictured painted rock artwork titled "Soaring In The Wind" was hand painted by local artist Gail Moryl, and is accompanied by a stained wooden stand hand crafted by Steve Moryl.

Through generous donations made by Oswego businesses and citizens, the maritime museum will be able to continue the mission of restoring Oswego's Lighthouse to a condition that will eventually allow for it to be open to the public for guided tours. The H. Lee White Maritime Museum at Oswego offers citizens and tourists alike over 400 years of history and is open year round to the public. Museum efforts in restoring the city's unique and precious historic landmark are expected not only to increase tourism to lighthouse itself, but will benefit businesses throughout the area.
