Mayor Barlow Announces $25,000 Grant For Re-Location of Stone’s Candies to Downtown

Mayor Barlow Announces $25,000 Grant For Re-Location of Stone’s Candies to Downtown

Mayor Billy Barlow has announced a $25,000 grant to Stone's Homemade Candies, a small business staple in the Oswego community for over 50 years.

Stone's Candies, owned by Donald Regan, Bill Galloway, Jeff McCrobie and Diego Labaudy (RGML Candies, LLC), will be re-locating to downtown Oswego, renovating the existing building at 23 West Seneca Street. Stone's Candies manufactures and sells chocolates, candies, ice cream and other goods and plans to create an on-line shipping operation to serve stores Countrywide. The re-location and expansion are expected to create 4 new full-time jobs and 4 new part time jobs in the next two years in addition to the six existing jobs.

"Stone's Candies is another iconic business in the City of Oswego that deserves community support and funding assistance as they begin a new chapter in their over 50 years of existence. I am excited to have Stone's re-locate to downtown Oswego and add to the positive changes happening in our downtown," said Mayor Barlow. "A business like Stone's Candies is exactly what we hope to attract to our core downtown area and I anticipate this move being beneficial to their operation. I am proud to support Stone's Candies with this funding, offering a helping hand to another long standing, iconic, local, small business in the City of Oswego," Barlow said.

"We are thrilled to be able to receive this grant from Mayor Barlow and the City of Oswego," said Bill Galloway of Stone's Candies. "Stone's has been a staple in this community for decades and this grant will allow us to keep a long running family business thriving by allowing us to expand the business and hire more employees to service our loyal customers."

Stone's Candies is scheduled to start renovation construction on their new building in late Spring 2019. The funding comes from the commitment of program income through the NYS Community Development Block Grant program, administered and managed by the city’s Office of Economic Development. Other projects assisted by the city recently include a major expansion project for Northland Filter, the expansion of The Good Guys Barbershop and the re-location of LeRoi, Inc., to the city of Oswego and the re-location of Pizza Villa to the current Stone's Candies building.
