Retired Supreme Court Justice, James W. McCarthy, has lent his support to Thomas Benedetto’s candidacy for Oswego County Family Court Judge:

“I’ve never written a letter to the editor in my life, but the current Family Court race has caused me to do so,” McCarthy said. “ I have known Thom Benedetto for over 30 years, which is the length of time that I was City Court Judge and Supreme Court Justice. Thom tried cases before me when he was an assistant district attorney in both City Court and County Court.

“He was appointed as a Family Court referee through the Fifth Judicial District. As a referee he has had trials of abuse and neglect cases as well as custody and visitation cases. He has issued orders determining custody and visitation, and has issued orders of protection to persons when they needed them—all of which a Family Court Judge does.

“He has the judicial temperament and knowledge of the law that a Family Court needs. He is the most highly qualified person to be the next Family Court Judge for Oswego County. There is no learning curve for him as he has been doing the same work that a Family Court Judge does for the last ten years.”

Benedetto is the endorsed Oswego County Republican and Conservative candidate, and he has the approval of Independence Party voters. Republican, Conservative and Independence party voters will have the opportunity to select their choice for Family Court Judge in the June 25 primary election.
