For Norrie and Geraldine Jones giving back to the community was much more than a phrase. It was a way of life.

The last several of my columns have focused on Harborfest, and our attempts 30 years ago, to re-invigorate the community, and particularly its waterfront. While we achieved much, a great deal was left undone. One of the few regrets I have in life is that I did not seek a second term as Mayor in 1991. I wish I had been able to, but with two kids in college at the time, and two more on their way, I had to leave to focus on my career and making money, and as exhilarating as the Mayoralty was, it was killing me economically.
It's that time of year again when It is said that April showers bring May flowers. The next question, so what do May flowers bring ? The answer is not Pilgrims , but Tourists, and plenty of them.
Summer is just around the corner, and the weatherman is predicting an unusually hot one. Our less than snowy winter may give way to a hotter than usual July and August this year , with 10 or more days predicted to be above 90 degrees.
My first job ever was as a paperboy for the Pall-Times, with a route that had 142 customers, one of the largest routes in the city.
Nature, and the relative purity and simplicity of it, is very alluring. Beauty abounds in it, and, in short, nature sells… Big time.
