Write a commentOn Saturday, Aug.13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Magic in Minetto will celebrate the town's 100th year with a fun, family-friendly festival at the Minetto Town Hall and River View Park along the Oswego River.
Inside the Minetto Town Hall will be a free ice cream social, special stamp cancellation from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. by our Post Office featuring "Minetto Celebrating 100 Years". Minetto History Buffs will have displays and photos of Minetto in years gone-by. The Minetto Fire Department will be raising funds $5 for 5 hits on a vehicle, later they will demonstrate a vehicle extrication. Crafters will be displaying their wares from jewelry to handmade baskets.
The Riverview Park will host the following: music, food provided by the Minetto United Methodist Church, free craft making, face painting and fun activities provided by the Children' Museum of Oswego. Other activities in the park will include: classic cars, Minetto Boy Scout Troop P819 display and rain gutter regatta, and American Legion Leadbetter-Brinklow Post 486 Display.
Magic in Minetto recognizes its history and association with the Oswego Canal and River by hosting this annual event during New York State's Canal Splash Weekend. To promote the recreational use of the canal and river, a Canoe and Kayak Race and Pace is held during the festival. The Race and Pace begins at 1 p.m., is 1 1/2 miles in length designed to be fun and have both youths and adults enter and enjoy the event. A variety of categories allows for many winners. There is no charge for entering this race and pace but donations are accepted. Oswego Expeditions will have kayak rentals available throughout the day.
Magic will be kicked off on Friday, Aug 12, at 7 p.m. The Oswego County New Horizon's Band and Chorus will perform a concert at the Minetto United Methodist Church.
