The Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce has kicked off the Oswego Farmers' Market this past Thursday, May 22, 2014 on West 1st Street in the City of Oswego.

The market occurs every Thursday from now until mid-October starting at 4:30 pm. There will be some "noticeable changes" to the Market for this summer, says Nate Emmons, interim executive director of the Chamber. Emmons cites that the Chamber is looking for ways to improve the Market and make it much more focused on the community and the vendors present.

"The Market is the center piece of Thursday evenings in Oswego. We are working hard to improve the Market to attract more community participation, buying from the vendors at the market and enhancements in nutritional education offerings." Changes to the Market for the summer will include a new food vendor, educational programs/information regarding nutrition and buying products courtesy of the Food Bank of CNY and the Children's Museum of Oswego as well as changes in the entertainment format of the Market.

The Market will have much more of a community focus when it comes to entertainment this year. The Chamber has moved away from paid, professional bands at the Market to community based groups to perform on Thursday nights. The Chamber is looking for local groups, such as local bands, martial arts groups, private dance companies, children or adult theater groups, the local school groups or other groups from the city to provide entertainment during the Market. Exciting performances from community groups, such as the Oswego Children's Theater and Master Pryor's Taekwondo America, are already scheduled for the coming weeks. In addition, the Chamber is collaborating with Harborfest to kick off the "Oswego's Got Talent" competition taking place at Harborfest this July.

"During the month of July, the Market stage will host, through collaboration with Harborfest, a variety of performers that are looking to win the "Oswego's Got Talent" competition during Harborfest weekend. The Market will be the first stop for the talent competition and we are very excited to be partners with Harborfest in this event." Details for the talent show are forthcoming, but Emmons stated that Harborfest will be at the Market throughout the month of June to promote the event.
