Friends of Oswego City Historian Hold Congratulatory Meeting

The Friends of the Oswego City Historian met recently to offer congratulations to newly appointed historian Mark Slosek and to thank Historian Emeritus Lou Iorizzo for his valuable contributions during his tenure as Oswego City Historian.

The group reviewed and discussed updates to the website, and brainstormed a list of types of articles about Oswego’s history that would be of interest to the public. The list includes city parks, monuments, architecture, buildings, people, railroads, trolleys, lake transportation, and city facilities such as skating rinks, pools, wastewater treatment plants, bridges and tunnels.

Friends of the Oswego City Historian welcome questions about the city’s history and suggestions for articles to post on the website http://oswegohistorian.org/.

There was also discussion centered around how to assist people who post questions on the website seeking information about their Oswego ancestors. Slosek is compiling a list of resources people can access to conduct their own individual searches about their ancestry.  It was noted that there are no local records of Oswego residents prior to 1881.

Several possible events are also under consideration, including the upcoming 200th anniversary of the first church in Oswego, Faith United Church, and public openings of  two time capsules that are buried near city hall.
