John F. Gibson, Jr., 81, a resident of Furniss Station Road in the Town of Oswego, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at his home.
John was born in Oswego, the son of the late John F. Gibson Sr. and the late Lenora (Thurston) Gibson.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the 1960s.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the Chem Lab of the Oswego Novelis Corporation.
He was the husband of the late Marcella (Paternoster) who died in 2024.
John was a longtime member of the Oswego Lodge of Elks, where had served in the past as the Exalted Ruler. He was also an active member of the Oswego Masonic Lodge.
He was an enthusiastic fan of Oswego racing, and was a member of the Port City Faith Church in Oswego.
He is survived by a daughter, Theresa Gibson of Oswego; two sons, Charles Gibson of Weedsport, and John Gibson, III of Oswego; two brothers, Tim (Peg) Gibson of Oswego, and George Gibson of Oswego; three sisters, Donna (Bob) Adams of Florida, Lenora Malone of Oswego, and Tammy (Gene) Hulbert of Barton, NY; three grandchildren, Morgan Phelps, Dillon Gibson, and Brandon Beshures; one great-great grandson, Ian Moody; and a godson, Chad Hulbert.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Michael Gibson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
Calling hours will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 Saturday, prior to the service, at the funeral home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
