Lakeside Artisans welcomes its newest artist, Bert Leighton, and her solar paintings.

Leighton, a retired elementary teacher who lives in Oswego, has studied art with nationally known watercolorists in numerous workshops from Maine to Florida. She has been active in the Oswego County arts community for many years and was a founding member of the Oswego Art Guild in 1960.
Leighton has exhibited her work in various galleries along the eastern seaboard of the United States, including a World Federation of Miniaturists' Exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC in July of 2004.
Leighton uses natural elements in the form of leaves, flowers, needles, bark, shells and more combined with the Sun's powerful rays to create her solar paintings.
"Creating visual images is my strongest means of expression and greatest joy," she said. "Each creation is a personal response to subjects and/or feelings at various times and places, under certain conditions, with the infusion of a lifetime accumulation of ideas, experiences, and emotions."
Leighton's artwork may be seen at Lakeside Artisans, 191 W. First St., Oswego, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday; from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursdays during the Farmers' Market; and from 12-4 p.m. Sundays.
