The next performers to grace the National Stage at the Oswego Music Hall will be The John Byrne Band from Philadelphia, PA.
They bring their mix of Celtic and Americana music to the lakeside venue on Saturday, November 4th at 7:30 p.m.
iHeart Oswego caught up with lead singer and songwriter John Byrne as he was setting up for a Wednesday evening show in Philly. Byrne, originally from Dublin, Ireland, said that he and the band were delighted to be returning to Oswego.
"We played a private event in Oswego several years back, and that led to us playing two or three times at the Ancient Order of Hibernians there," Byrne said. "Oswego is a lovely town, and we're very excited to see some familiar faces."
"We were scheduled to play at the Music Hall last season, but were forced to postpone the show due a pending winter storm," he continued. "We're fortunate that they were able to schedule us again this fall."
Byrne said that the band has been playing together since 2008 or 2009, and has four previous albums under their belt. "We've been recording quite a bit lately," Byrne said, "and we plan to release two albums in 2024. The first out will be an acoustic folk record, and then we'll release an album with the full band later in the year." He said that bandmate Andy Keenan produced both new albums.
The John Byrne Band has also recently returned from a tour of Ireland. "We played seven shows in listening rooms around the country," Byrne said. "My bandmates Maura Dwyer on violin and cello and Rob Curto on accordion joined me on the tour, along with a good friend, guitarist Chris Buchanan, who filled in for Andy on this trip."
The John Byrne Band has a busy fall season ahead, with several shows scheduled around his adopted hometown. Byrne said that in a couple of weeks they would be playing at the famed Philadelphia venue World Café Live.
Pre-sale tickets for the John Byrne Band's November 4 show are available online at OswegoMusicHall.org, or in person at River's End Bookstore in downtown Oswego.
An Open Mic Night will take place at the Music Hall on Friday, November 3rd, hosted by Steve Watson. The Music Hall is located at 41 Lake Street in Oswego.
