2025 SUNYAC Women's Basketball Annual Awards Announced

The SUNYAC announces its 2025 women's basketball All-Conference teams and individual awards including Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year. These awards are nominated and voted on by the 10 conference coaches. 

Co-Player of the Year - Kayla Campbell, Cortland
Campbell helped lead her team to a 17-1 regular season conference record to earn the top seed and the right to host the SUNYAC women's basketball final four. The Red Dragons went on to win the 2025 championship which was the program's ninth overall women's basketball conference crown. Campell was named to the All-Tournament team after totaling 30 points in the semifinal and final games. The sophomore guard/forward tallied 203 points, 106 rebounds, 49 assists, 33 steals and 10 blocks in 18 conference games this season. So far Campbell has totaled 330 points, 140 rebounds, 72 assists, 47 steals and 16 blocks overall. The Red Dragons will continue their season in the NCAA Division III tournament where they will travel to Maine to take on Endicott in the first round.

Co-Player of the Year - Giavanna White-Principio, Oswego 
White-Principio led the league with 210 total rebounds and 40 blocks in conference competition this season. She also held the highest shooting percentage hitting 51.3 percent from the field. White-Principio totaled 239 points, 31 steals and 29 assists in SUNYAC play. Overall she led the league with 303 total rebounds and 57 blocks. White-Principio also had 321 points and 38 assists overall. The Lakers were ranked third going into postseason play and advanced to the SUNYAC semifinals. The team ended the season with a record of 17-10 overall.

Defensive Player of the Year - Julia Sabatino, New Paltz
Sabatino led the SUNYAC in assists (82), was third with 52 steals and added 11 blocks in conference competition. Overall she tallied 286 points, 193 rebounds, 133 assists, 73 steals and 15 blocks in 27 games. Sabatino was named to the All-Tournament team after leading her team to the SUNYAC final. The Hawks finished the season 15-3 in conference play and 17-10 overall.

Rookie of the Year - Kieonna Christmas, Morrisville
Christmas finished conference competition ranked third in total rebounds (161) and fourth in assists (65) and blocks (25). She totaled 230 points and averaged 12.8 points per game in 18 league games. Christmas was named the SUNYAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week twice this season. Overall, Christmas had 295 points, 228 rebounds, 92 assists, 40 steals and 31 blocks in her first year playing for the Mustangs.

Coaching Staff of the Year - Cortland
Cortland's head coach Colleen Ames is assisted by Madison Shea, Brian Burns, Diana Ter Bush and Jeremy Zanella. The staff coached their team to a 17-1 regular season conference record to earn the No. 1 seed going into postseason play. Cortland beat the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC final to capture the 2025 women's basketball league title. This was the program's ninth overall SUNYAC women's basketball championship win. This season Cortland had four student-athletes named All-Conference including the Co-Player of the Year, Kayla Campbell. The team is currently 24-3 overall and will advance to the Division III NCAA tournament where they will face Endicott in the first round on Friday, March 7 at 5 p.m.
