News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

All Five Seniors Take First in Win over Potsdam

The Oswego State men’s swimming and diving team cruised to its seventh win of the year 166-107 over Potsdam on Saturday afternoon in Laker Pool. Before the meet, the Lakers thanked their five seniors for Senior Day: Zach Gerber, Dylan Tiefenthaler, Austin Nau, Sanjay Raman and John Miller. Oswego is now 7-3 on the year.

Sophomore Luke Snyder highlighted the meet with his second qualifying score of the season, earning him a spot in the NCAA Regional event. On Saturday, Snyder captured wins in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, grabbing 18 points combined for Oswego.

Two Lakers won a pair of events against the Bears, starting with Gerber. In event seven of the day, Gerber collected first in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.63. Just 10 events later, the senior gained another top time, taking the 100-yard freestyle by less than a second.

Junior Devon Foster joined Gerber with a multiple-win day, earning victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.44) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.69).

Four others swam to triumphs in the meet, beginning with Tiefenthaler’s nearly two-second victory in the 100-yard backstroke. Next was Nau’s 50-yard free win, touching the wall in 22.54. Jacob Mullet was primed to grab nine points for Oswego when he beat out teammate Nathan Taylor in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.09. The final individual to claim first for the Lakers was James Dillon, who downed his Potsdam counterpart in the 500-yard free.

Capping the special day was a quartet of seniors winning event 31, the 200-yard freestyle relay. Gerber, Raman, Tiefenthaler and Miller combined for a time of 1:31.82, holding off their opponent by less than a second.

Oswego will hit the road for its final regular season event of the year, traveling to the Geneseo Invite at 12 p.m. next Saturday.
