Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Awards Continue for Lakers Baseball Quartet

After being selected to the D3baseball.com All-Region Team, Jordan Giller, Dan Saccocio, Brendyn Karinchak and Eric Hamilton were all named to the All-New York Region Teams as recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings. Giller and Saccocio both took home first team honors, while Karinchak earned second team accolades and Hamilton third team.

Giller boasted a batting average of .401 (57-for-142) this year, which led all Lakers and is second in the SUNYAC. Of those at-bats, the junior knocked 17 extra base hits, including a team-high 12 doubles. The Toronto, Ont. native has also drove in 38 runs, tying him for second most on the squad and recorded 80 total bases, which leads the Lakers. Giller, who started at first base in all 40 games this year, recorded a fielding percentage of .997, only committing one error while collecting 349 putouts. He also was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Team, the All-SUNYAC First Team and the First Team All-New York Region by D3baseball.com.

Hamilton started all 40 games for the Lakers this season. The sophomore held a batting average of .345, while his 165 plate appearances led the squad. Hamilton also led the team, and the entire SUNYAC, in runs batted in (39) and hits (57). In the field, the Liverpool, N.Y. native has impressed, recording a fielding percentage of .955, including 72 assists. Hamilton was also named First Team All-SUNYAC and Second Team All-Region by D3baseball.com.

Saccocio has been Oswego's leadoff man, starting in all 40 games this season. The Scotia, N.Y. native currently paced not only the team, but also the conference, in on-base percentage (.538), stolen bases (25) and runs scored (52). The outfielder posted a batting average of .372, including eight doubles and two home runs. In the field, the senior earned 61 putouts and maintained a .940 fielding percentage. Saccocio was named alongside Giller to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Team as well as First Team All-SUNYAC and Second Team All-New York Region (D3baseball.com).

Karinchak made 10 starts on the bump for Oswego, taking home a win seven of those times. The senior held a 2.27 ERA over 67.1 innings pitched, the most by anybody on the team. In that amount of time, Karinchak racked up 67 punch outs, 20 more than anyone else in the entire SUNYAC. Of those strikeouts, 25 have been looking, which also paced all pitchers in the conference. The Walden, N.Y. native held his opponents to an average of .238 at the plate which was second best on the squad. This year, Karinchak was also selected to the All-SUNYAC First Team and Second Team All-New York Region by D3Baseball.com.

Oswego State finished the season at 27-13, tying the program record for the most wins in a single season. The team also made its first NCAA Championship appearance since 1996, earning the four seed in the New York Regional.
