News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Baseball Closes Out SUNYAC Schedule With Sweep Over Oneonta

The Oswego State baseball team finished its weekend sweep of Oneonta this weekend, defeating the Red Dragons in both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Oswego shut out Oneonta 4-0 in game won before defeating them 9-2 in the second contest.

Today's wins give the Lakers 29 on the year, setting the program record for most victories in a single season. That breaks the record the 27 the team set in 2013 and 2015, both under the helm of Coach Scott Landers. The team has also earned the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC Championship for the second-straight season.

Game 1:
Oswego took no time at all getting on the board, scoring two in the first frame. Brian Hamilton got the ball rolling as he singled into left field with one out. He was joined on base his brother Eric Hamilton as he singled to the shortstop. Myles Kutscher would get hit by the pitch to set the table for Jordan Giller, who doubled down the right field line scoring the brothers Hamilton.

In the following inning, Oswego tacked on another as Alex Brown, who got on with a double, was plated after the second basemen named an error on a Wes Randall at bat. The final Laker run came in the top of the fourth beginning with a Randall single to short. He was able to advance to third in the next at-bat as B. Hamilton sent a rip up the middle and then finally sent home as E. Hamilton singled in the following plate appearance.

Brian Nolan got the complete game on the bump for Oswego, improving his record to 5-1 on the season while punching out six in the process.

Game 2:
Much like game one, the Lakers got off to a quick start, accruing runs in each of the first three innings. With both the Hamilton's on in the first, Kutscher was able to send B. Hamilton home as he singled into the left field. Oswego doubled up in the following frame as a Randall sacrifice fly scored Matt Capobianco from third.

With a 2-0 lead going into the third, the Laker offense exploded as they put up six more runs. With one out, E. Hamilton singled to get on first. He was quickly driven home though as Kutscher tripled in the next at bat. Giller followed that with a single up the middle that allowed Kutscher to cross the dish.

After Dellicarri grounded out to advance Giller, the Toronto, Ont. native was waived home on a Capobianco single to right field. Robert Donnelly would get hit by pitch in the next at bat and Collin Thompson then got on, and scored Capobianco, due to a fielding error by the second basemen. Randall would then get walked to load the diamond for B. Hamilton, who took advantage by sending a shot up the middle that would score two.

Oswego would record its final run of the day in the top of the seventh as Thompson singled to send Donnelly home.

The first six innings on the mound were manned by Tim Cronin, who struck out three while only allowing one run. He was relieved by John-Michael Guarino who pitched two scoreless frames before Brandon Schultzkie finished out the final three outs.

Done with its regular season conference schedule, baseball will have two tune-up games this upcoming week beginning with 4 p.m. bout on Monday against Ithaca College at Laker Baseball Field.
