News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Big Second Half Propels Lakers to Victory

The Oswego State women's basketball team defeated Potsdam, 58-44, at home on Friday evening. With the win, the Lakers move to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in SUNYAC play, while the Bears fall to 1-12 this season and 0-7 in conference action.

Oswego was quickly able to erase a 21-18 halftime deficit at the start of the third quarter. The Lakers put up 10 unanswered points to grab a 28-21 lead, and did not surrender their lead for the rest of the game. As a team, the Lakers had a 44.8 second-half field goal percentage compared to the Bears' 25.8.

Oswego was also successful in capitalizing off of the Bears' mistakes. The Bears committed nine turnovers during the second half, and the Lakers ended the night netting 13 points off of Potsdam's 15 turnovers.

Rachael Windhausen, Quincey Zimmerman and Courtney Ameele each contributed 14 points to Oswego's victory. Windhausen picked up 12 rebounds as well, five offensive and seven defensive, for her third double-double of the season. Zana Dillard, who leads the team with an average of 12.1 rebounds per game, also collected 12 rebounds against Potsdam.

The Lakers combined for 13 assists on the night, spread fairly evenly throughout the team. Amelee and Raiven Encarnacion each notched a team-high of three.

Next, the Lakers will continue SUNYAC play at home as they host the Plattsburgh Cardinals at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
