News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Ellis Scores Twice in Win Over Hamilton

OS Hockey

The Oswego State women's ice hockey team scored the game's final two goals to defeat visiting Hamilton College 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Marano Campus Center Arena. With the victory, Oswego goes to 5-2-0 overall on the year and the Continentals drop to 0-4-1.

Late in the final period, with the game tied at 1-1, Andrew Noss pounded a low shot that was saved by Hamilton's Samantha Walther. Walther laid flat on the ice trying to corral the rebound but Olivia Ellis gathered the puck and lifted it over the goalie for the game-winner with 5:52 left in regulation.

Trailing 1-0 in the second period, Ellis netted her first of the game with an equalizer with 2:02 left in the period, going bar down over the Continental goalie's right shoulder. Noss and Rachel Lenard tried to feed Ellis with a pass but Hamilton's Casey Brown intercepted the chance. Ellis would not let the opportunity slip away, however, poking the puck free from Brown and immediately sending a backhand over the goalie.

In the first period, Hamilton capitalized on a Laker penalty when Oswego was whistled for too-many players on the ice. With Ellis serving the penalty, the Continentals scored a goal just 27 seconds into the power play, making it 1-0. Teal Gosselin sent a pass in from just inside the blue line and Hanna Bartlett tried to put a shot home. Mariah Madrigal made a save on Bartlett's attempt but the rebound was batted in by Katie Parkman, who was waiting on the other side of the crease. The tally came with exactly one minute remaining in the opening period and the score held at 1-0 heading into the first break.

Mariah Madrigal earned her first-career start and win on Tuesday, stopping 20 shots from the Continentals.

The Lakers will be back on the ice at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5 when they travel to Neumann University for an ECAC West matchup.
