Oswego State field hockey fell to St. John Fisher College 2-0 at home on Tuesday evening. With the loss, Oswego drops to 3-7 on the season while the Cardinals move to 8-3.
The Lakers played a close game in the first half despite being outshot by the Cardinals. Freshman goalkeeper Sarita Charap recorded nine saves to keep the game at 0-0 going into halftime.
Fisher opened up the scoring 1:12 into the second half as Emily Markarian was able to gather the ball off an Oswego deflection and slid it past the goalie's right side. The Cardinals were later able to grab an insurance goal by Stacie Skidmore with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.
Oswego was able to get shots off but struggled to capitalize. Lisa O'Callaghan and Grace Rinaldi each took three shots but three of the six combined attempts were stopped by Fisher's keeper. Monica Harvey and Rachel Johnston also pitched in, taking two and one, respectively.
Charap ended the game with 12 saves, just one shy of her career record.
Field hockey takes to the field at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for an away game against Elmira College.
