The Oswego State field hockey team improved its season record back to .500 (2-2) with a 2-1 win over Houghton College (2-3) in the Lakers` home-opener.
After playing to a 1-1 tie in the first half, Danielle Cronk scored the game-winner in the 44th minute. Cronk nabbed a pass to the goalie's left side from Erin O'Brien and was able to send it in for a score. The goal was Cronk's second of the year.
In the first half, Oswego struck first as Cronk played helper to a Jenna Jevons goal. Cronk sent the ball through as Jevons rushed towards the goal, diving to tap in the score.
Houghton was able to knot the game just before half as Colleen Sullivan found Kristin McKane for a goal at 31:25.
Oswego was able to dominate nearly every facet of the contest, outshooting the Highlanders 16-9 with an 11-4 margin for shots-on-goal.
In net, Sarita Charap improved her record to 2-0 as the Laker goalie, playing all 70 minutes with three saves.
The Lakers will be back in action at 5 p.m. on Tuesday when they hit the road to face Hamilton College.
