The American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings has named five members of the nationally-ranked Oswego State baseball team to its All-Region teams, while D3baseball.com has given All-Region honors to three.
For ABCA/Rawlings, Mike Dellicarri and Robert Donnelly were named to the first team, John Barnes and Reston Pettit were named to the second team and Myles Kutscher was named to the third team. On the D3baseball.com All-Region squad, Dellicarri earned first team honors, Donnelly collected second team honors and Kutscher nabbed third team honors.
Dellicarri, the reigning SUNYAC Player of the Year, has been a driving force in the Lakers’ return to Appleton, Wisc. The junior’s 54 runs, 54 RBI, eight home runs and five triples all topped the conference leaderboard this season. Dellicarri’s 54 runs rank 26th in the nation as well, while his 54 RBI rank 29th. Dellicarri picked up seven RBI over four games during the NCAA Championship New England Regional, with four of them coming on a grand slam against Suffolk University on May 17. Dellicarri’s impressive performance at the regional placed him on the All-Tournament Team. Not only has the Congers, N.Y. native shined at the plate this season, but he has been consistent in the outfield as well. Dellicarri boasts a fielding percentage of .990, only committing a single error while recording 93 putouts.
Donnelly sits atop the SUNYAC rankings in multiple categories as well. The senior’s miniscule ERA of 1.22 is good for first in the conference and currently ranks ninth in the nation. Donnelly has gone the distance eight times on the mound for Oswego, another SUNYAC-best, which also ranks third in the country. He is coming off of a complete-game shutout at the New England Regional, leading Oswego to a 2-0 victory over third-seeded and nationally-ranked Keystone College on May 18. Like Dellicarri, Donnelly claimed a spot on the All-Tournament Team with his efforts. Overall this season, the New City, N.Y. native has recorded a WHIP of only 0.94 to claim the 17th spot nationally.
Barnes has been a force to be reckoned with at the plate. With a .323 batting average, Barnes is one of just four players in the SUNYAC to collect at least 50 hits so far this season. The senior has mashed extra-base hits, leading the conference with five triples and ranking sixth with four home runs. Barnes has also knocked in 37 runs this season, good for fourth-most in the SUNYAC. On May 1, Barnes set a new career high with five RBI in Oswego’s 34-12 offensive explosion over then-No. 27 St. John Fisher College.
Pettit has been the face of consistency on the mound for the Lakers. With an ERA of 2.40 – the fourth best in the conference – Pettit has not allowed more than three earned runs to an opponent in a single game this season. The senior’s 51 strikeouts across 63.2 innings also ranks fourth in the SUNYAC. At the SUNYAC Championship, Pettit nabbed a spot on the All-Tournament Team with his performance in Oswego’s 4-3 walk-off win over New Paltz. The Bolivar, N.Y. native only allowed one earned run over 7.1 innings of work. Pettit followed up with another commanding performance at the New England Regional, giving up just two earned runs over seven innings in a 13-3 win over Suffolk University.
Kutscher has dominated at the plate for Oswego, especially in SUNYAC play. During the SUNYAC Championship, Kutscher batted .533 across five games to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. The senior’s .405 batting average during SUNYAC contests this season ranked fourth in the conference, while his .490 on-base percentage (OBP) ranked fourth. Kutscher’s overall OBP, which currently sits at .443, is a career-high. The Glen Cove, N.Y. native has driven in 33 runs so far this season, putting him in sixth in the SUNYAC.
This is Dellicarri, Barnes and Pettit’s first All-Region nod, while Donnelly and Kutscher both received regional honors in 2016. The five All-Region honorees and the rest of the Laker team return to action at 10 a.m. on Friday, when they face University of Texas at Tyler at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisc. for the College World Series.
