
The Oswego State wrestling team took a 15th place finish out of 20 teams at the New York State Intercollegiate Championships held at Cornell University on Sunday afternoon. Of the 14 schools finishing ahead of the Lakers, six were Division I institutions while one was from Division II.
Earning the most points for Oswego was Scot Bova, who took eighth place at the 184-weight class. Bova collected 7.50 points for the team with a win in the championship bracket round two and then the consolation round five. The junior's first win came by 5-0 decision while the second triumph was a fall at 2:49.
Also finishing in eighth was Joe Gorsuch at 197, tallying 4.50 points for Oswego. Gorsuch won a 7-5 decision over Freddy Vidal of Nassau Community College before taking a 6-4 bout over New York University's Brian Anderson. Those wins came in the consolation bracket, rounds three and four, respectively.
Abubakarr Sow nabbed three points for the Lakers at 149, winning a match in a close 3-2 decision before defeating Ed Ramirez of Long Island Post by fall at 1:56.
James Ronca was able to corral two points at 125 by beating Posts' Tyler Walsh in a hard-fought 5-4 decision.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lakers was Tyler Silverthorn, who earned a point at 157 with a 3-1 decision over Samuel Friedfeld of NYU.
Oswego will be back on the mats at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 when it takes part in the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational.
