News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Lakers Split Baseball Doubleheader with Brockport

The No. 14/19 Oswego State baseball team split its doubleheader with Brockport on Friday afternoon.

Oswego's hitters put on a show in game one to earn a 14-4 win, but the Lakers fell to the Golden Eagles, 4-1, in game two. With the split, Oswego moves to 18-7 on the season and 8-2 in SUNYAC play, while Brockport improves to an even 13-13 and 7-6 in conference action.

After the Golden Eagles opened the scoring with a run in the second inning of game one, the Lakers answered in the bottom half. John Barnes led things off by reaching on a Brockport error. The next three Laker hitters, Eli Holton, Myles Kutscher and Lukas Olsson, each singled to give Oswego a 2-1 lead.

Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Ryan Enos drew his team-high 16th walk of the season to extend the Laker lead. The next batter, Brandon Nicholson, drove in Olsson with a sacrifice fly for Oswego's fourth and final run of the inning.

In the third, the Lakers were at it again. Kutscher smacked a home run over the center field fence to put two more runs on the board for Oswego.

Brockport managed to get a run in the top of the sixth, but the Lakers added on to their lead in the bottom half. With the bases loaded and two outs, Holton came through with a clutch single to center field to drive in two runs.

Later in the inning, with the bases loaded again, Olsson drew a walk for Oswego's 10th run of the game. Kevin Hylas then cleared the bases with a double, giving the Lakers a 13-2 lead.

Two innings later, after Brockport got two runs back in the top half of the eighth, Oswego scored the final run of the game when pinch hitter Jonathan Luppens launched a solo home run to left field.

In six innings of work, starter Reston Pettit allowed just two earned runs and struck out five Golden Eagle batters to earn the win. Mike Disalvo, Dylan Wiley and Quinn MacDonald each pitched an inning in relief, with Disalvo and MacDonald not giving up a run and Wiley allowing just two.

In game two, the Lakers' lone run came in the seventh inning. With Holton on first and Nick Chilson on second, Kutscher came through with a double down the left field line to drive in Chilson.

Robert Donnelly pitched all seven innings for the Lakers, recording three strikeouts and not surrendering a walk.

Oswego finishes its three-game series with Brockport tomorrow afternoon. The Lakers and Golden Eagles will face off in the rubber match at Union Endicott High School at 2 p.m.
