The Oswego State men's soccer team kept nationally-ranked Plattsburgh at bay in the first half but a four-goal Cardinal second half stopped the Lakers bid for the upset, falling 5-1. Oswego is now 3-7 on the year and 0-3 in the SUNYAC while No. 18 Plattsburgh improves to 9-1, 2-0.
Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, Oswego made the contest interesting with two reserves connecting to knot the game. At 43:18, Justin Delavalle dribbled outside the top right corner of the 18-foot box and then sent a beautiful pass towards the goal. Delavalle's pass was right on target, connecting with a streaking Brody Magro, who sent a header past the charging Cardinal keeper. It was the senior's first tally of 2016 while Delavalle – a sophomore – recorded his first-career assist.
Despite putting the Cardinals on their heels heading into halftime tied at 1-1, Plattsburgh was able to score four times in the final 45 minutes to secure the victory.
Mitch Brickman and Bernard Osei paced the Lakers with shots-on-goal apiece, while Magro, Lucas Williamson and Alex Sestak each had one.
In net, sophomore Evan Bogucki tied a career-high for saves, finishing with six, the third such occasion this season. Bogucki also had a half-dozen saves in back-to-back games against Franklin and Marshall College and Messiah College in early Sept.
Alumni Weekend will continue at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Laker Turf Stadium when the Potsdam Bears visit campus.
