
The Oswego State wrestling team claimed seventh place at the ECWC Championships, held at Oneonta on Saturday.
Tyler Silverthorn had a solid outing to lead the Lakers on the day, recording 19.50 points for the team, accounting for more than half of the team score. Silverthorn, competing at 157, came out hot, pinning his Lycoming College counterpart at 5:55. After taking a loss in the quarterfinal, Silverthorn fought his way through the consolation round, winning four-straight bouts to take third place. Out of those four wins, Silverthorn recorded two major decisions over wrestlers from RIT and Cortland.
The next-highest point-getter for Oswego was Jonathan Ptacek in the 133-weight class. Ptacek went 3-3 on the mats, earning six points towards the Lakers' team score. He won three decisions over opponents from Ithaca, Oneonta and Lycoming to earn sixth place.
Also grabbing sixth place was 125-pound teammate Kevin Ramikshun. Ramkishun went 2-3 in his bouts, collecting both victories by decision.
Sean Maloney tallied three points towards the Lakers' score, going 2-2 at 174. Rounding out the Oswego scoring was Simon Greebel at 133 and Dillion Hudson at 285, each notching one point. Both wrestlers won their first match of the day to register the point.
Oswego will be on the road in its next match, traveling to Brockport for a 7 p.m. dual on Wednesday.
