News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Oswego Drops Close Contest in Final Seconds

OS BasketballThe Oswego State women`s basketball team fell 51-50 in heartbreaking fashion to Brockport in its final home game of the regular season. With the loss, Oswego falls to 6-18 overall and 2-15 in the SUNYAC while the Golden Eagles improve to 9-14, 5-11.

Tied at 48-48 with under a minute to play in regulation, Heather Hebert found a lane to the basket, beating her defender for an easy layup. Hebert's layup put the Lakers in front with 16 seconds left.

Brockport inbounded the ball and advanced inside halfcourt before calling a timeout with 13.5 second on the clock to draw up a play. Coming out of the timeout, the Golden Eagles ran a backdoor cut, finding Alexandra Marshall open on the block for a lay-in as she was fouled. Marshall hit the ensuing free throw to give Brockport the lead at 51-50 with 10.4 remaining.

Jenn Robbins advanced the ball to the baseline and found Alison Nunziato for a good look from distance but the shot missed off the right side of the rim as the buzzer sounded.

Robbins finished with a game-high 16 points while also accumulating three steals. The steals tied for a team-high as Haley Witchella also took away three Golden Eagle possessions. Withella also finished with a game-high eight rebounds and a block.

Hebert was the Lakers second-leading scorer in the game, tallying eight points. Nunziato finished with six points while Withcella, Lauren Nunziato, Tayler Sorell, Mary Mazzella and Lexi Gillard each finished with four.

Oswego will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when it wraps up the season with a road contest at Cortland.
