News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Oswego Men's Basketball Opens Elmira Tournament with Ease

OS Basketball

The Oswego State men's basketball team cruised to a 71-46 victory over Mount Saint Mary College in the opening game of the Elmira College Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening. Oswego's win improves its record to 2-0 on the year while the Knights drop to 1-1.

Senior Kyle Covley led the Lakers in the contest with an efficient shooting performance. The swingman finished with a game-high 19 points on 6-for-8 (75.0%) shooting from the field, including 5-for-7 (71.4%) from distance. Covley was active on the boards as well, pacing all players with nine rebounds, eight coming off the defensive glass.

Helping Covley on the both sides of the ball was classmate Walter Sampson, who shot 50.0% (5-for-10) from the field for 12 points. The senior also had a team-high six assists to go along with six rebounds.

Also scoring in double figures for Oswego was junior guard Brian Sortino, registering 11 points on the night.

The Laker defense wreaked havoc on Mount Saint Mary, holding the Knights to just 34.0% shooting from the field and 17.6% from 3-point land. Oswego also more than doubled the Knights' total on the boards (43-21) and had eight more points off of turnovers (23-15).

In all, 11 different Lakers scored in the tilt while 12 were able to record a rebound.

Oswego will face the winner of Elmira and Morrisville at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
