The Oswego State men`s ice hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision at Buffalo State on Saturday night, with all four goals coming in the second period. With the loss, Oswego falls to 12-4-1 on the year and 5-3-1 in SUNYAC play.
The Bengals were outshot by the Lakers 33-22 while Oswego also edged Buffalo State in face-offs (33-31). Oswego also held the advantage in penalties as the Lakers were whistled for just eight minutes of infractions while the Bengals spent 21 minutes in the sin bin.
Buffalo opened the scoring at 4:18 of the second, when Kyle Whipple netted a goal from Shane Avery. It was later in the period when the Bengals took the lead for good, scoring two power-play goals less than three minutes apart.
At 15:41, Mike Zannella scored from Taylor Pryce and Dan Turgeon on a power-play. Pryce and Turgeon were assisting again 2:30 later, as they fed Taylor McGraw for a goal during an extra-man opportunity. Turgeon then got on the receiving end of an assist, tallying a goal with 26 seconds left in the period to give the Bengals a 4-0 lead.
Shawn Hulshof and Nick Rivait each fired four shots on the night to no avail. Matt Zawadzki started in net for the Lakers, playing 40 minutes with 16 saves and four goals allowed. Justin Gilbert relieved Zawadzki in the final period, playing 20 minutes with two stops.
Oswego will return to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday when Cortland comes to the Campus Center.
