News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Oswego's Second Half Comeback Effort Falls Just Short

Oswego's Second Half Comeback Effort Falls Just Short

The Oswego State men's basketball nearly erased a double-digit deficit but fell 69-67 to Brockport on Friday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the loss, the Lakres are 12-12 overall and 9-8 in the conference while the Golden Eagles improved to 18-6, 13-4.

A strong first half for Brockport – with offensive struggles for the Lakers – proved to be the difference, as the Golden Eagles held a 34-23 lead at the break. Oswego's halftime adjustments worked well as it outscored Brockport by nine in the final 20 minutes, cutting the margin to a single possession on multiple occasions. Each time, the Golden Eagles were able to answer, never allowing Oswego to jump ahead.

Jamir Ferebee had a solid night from the floor, scoring a game-high 22 points on 8-for-19 shooting. The senior was also 50.0% (4-for-8) from beyond the arc and a prefect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.

Tyler Pierre cashed in another double-double – his sixth of the year – on 14 points and a game-high tying 10 rebounds. Joining Pierre with 10 boards was senior Josh Ivey, who also chipped in seven points and game-high three steals.

Also in double-figures in the scoring column was senior Ian Schupp (12). Rounding out the scoring for Oswego were Brandan Gartland with seven and Liam Sanborn with five. Sanborn also pitched in offensively with a team-high six assists.

The Lakers and Golden Eagles were close in turnovers at 12 and 13, respectively, but Oswego was better at converting turnovers into points. Oswego exchanged 13 Brockport turnovers for 17 points while the Golden Eagles only managed eight points off the Lakers 12 mishaps.

On Saturday, Oswego will host its final regular season game of the year, as Geneseo comes to campus for a 3 p.m. tip-off. Prior to the game, Oswego will honor its four seniors – Schupp, Ivey, Ferebee and Louis Avellino – with a short ceremony.
