News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Oswego's Team Effort Grounds the Hawks

The Oswego State men's basketball team completed a season sweep of New Paltz with a 73-57 road win over the Hawks on Tuesday night. Oswego's win pushes its overall mark to 15-6 on the year and, most importantly, 8-6 in SUNYAC competition. The Hawks fall to 4-16, 3-11 on the season.

Oswego has now been victorious in three-straight tilts and have come out on top in five of its last six outings.

On Tuesday, the Lakers used a 12-2 spurt over a little more than three-minute span to turn a four-point deficit into a six-point advantage. Over that run, Alex Rawa scored six of the team's 12 points on a trey and a traditional 3-point play. His six points capped the duration while back-to-back 3-pointers from Demetrius Mitchell and Keith Tyson started the barrage.

The Laker lead grew from that point forward, reaching an 11-point margin at 41-30 heading into the locker room at halftime. In the second half, it was more of the same, as Oswego expanded its control to as many as 22 points before the final buzzer.

Two Lakers finished in double-digits, paced by Brian Sortino's ninth-straight tilt with 20 points or more. Against New Paltz, the junior tallied exactly 20 on 7-for-16 shooting from the floor and 3-for-6 from long range. Joining Sortino with more than 10 points was classmate Mykelle Krecko. The center scored all of his 13 points in the first half while missing a double-double by just one rebound, collecting a team-high nine.

Helping in the effort were a trio of teammates who had five or more points and rebounds in the game. Tyson ended with eight points and five boards while Dustin Pond registered eight points and gathered seven caroms. Rounding out the group was Rawa's six points and that same total off the glass.

In all, 11 Lakers saw action, with 10 of those grabbing a rebound and nine recording a point.

Oswego will be back on the hardwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday when it faces the Potsdam Bears in a road battle.
