News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Oswego State softball closes out spring break with split

OS Softball    The Oswego State softball team (3-7) closed out its spring break softball trip with an 8-5 victory over Lawrence and a 7-5 loss to Hope on Tuesday, March 19.

Tori Trovato (Fr., Fulton, N.Y.) fell a single short of hitting a cycle against Hope, as she posted a double, a triple and a homerun.
Against the Vikings, the Lakers put together a three-run first inning with an RBI single by Dee Apps (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) and a two-RBI triple from Nicole Ouellette (Sr., Castleton, N.Y.). Oswego State tacked on another run in the second when Trovato scored following a Sammie Schroeter (Jr., Schenectady, N.Y.) RBI single.
With the Lakers leading 4-1 through three frames, Oswego State turned in another three-run inning in the fourth. After Katie Bredin (Jr., Oneonta, N.Y.) and Schroeter reached, Apps produced a key double to plate both players. Apps came around to score following Alexis Nasca's (Fr., Hamburg, N.Y.) single to put the Lakers ahead 7-2.
Lawrence cut into the margin by scoring three runs, as it trailed 7-5 midway through the sixth inning. However, Schroeter halted the momentum with an RBI double in the next at-bat, as Oswego State closed out the 8-5 win.
In the second game, both squads came out on fire as Hope held a 3-2 lead after the first inning when Alexandra McKay (Fr., Fairport, N.Y.) drove in Trovato and Schroeter.
Heading into the fifth inning, Oswego State trailed 6-2 until Trovato blasted a solo homerun and Apps registered a RBI hit to cut the deficit in half. Each team scored again before the end of the game, as Bredin brought around Trovato, who hit a double.
The Lakers have some time off before returning to the diamond Friday, March 29, at Cortland for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
