News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Oswego State softball swept by Utica

OS Softball In its final regular season doubleheader of the year, the Oswego State softball team (16-18) dropped two games to Utica (26-10) by the scores of 7-0 and 10-3.

The Pioneers scored two unearned runs in the first inning and followed up with two more runs in the third to go ahead 4-0. Utica's offense continued to click, as Bridgette Plummer hit a solo homerun in the fourth and drove in a run in the fifth. The Pioneers scored their final run of the sixth to post the 7-0 win.

Katie Dobkowski (Jr., Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded the lone Oswego State hit of the contest, as Alexis Nasca (Fr., Hamburg, N.Y.) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs, three of which were unearned, on 14 hits. Utica's Erica Colucci posted the complete-game win after striking out six and walking one.

In the nightcap of the twinbill, Utica scored the first run when it posted an unearned run in the third. The Lakers responded in their next at-bat when Tori Trovato (Fr., Fulton, N.Y.) hit her sixth homerun of the season to also plate Sammie Schroeter (Jr., Schenectady, N.Y.). Oswego State continued to roll as Brooke Radley (Sr., Pulaski, N.Y.) drove in Dee Apps (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.

However, the Pioneers responded with a pair of runs in the fourth before they tallied seven runs on six singles and one Laker error in the fifth to take a commanding 10-3 lead.

Oswego State countered in the sixth by loading the bases with one out, but was unable to string together base hits.

Sarah Thayer (Sr., Winthrop, N.Y.) picked up the loss giving up eight runs on 11 hits over 4.1 innings. Abby Monroe earned the win after scattering nine hits and allowing three runs.

The Lakers play Brockport in the first game of the SUNYAC Tournament at 9 a.m., Thursday, May 2, in Brockport.
