News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Oswego State women's lacrosse falls in season opener to RIT

OS LacrossThe Oswego State women's lacrosse team (0-1) struck early in its season opener, but RIT (3-1) closed out the first half with 11 goals as the Lakers suffered a 16-5 loss on Monday afternoon, March 11.

Oswego State had five different players score, while the Tigers received four goals from Ashleigh Caruso.

Erannan Shattuck (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.) put the visitors on the board 1:12 into the game with an unassisted goal. The Lakers maintained their lead until six minutes in when Caruso netted her first goal of the contest to trigger RIT's critical run. The Tigers went into halftime carrying an 11-1 lead after out-shooting Oswego State, 25-7, in the first half. The Lakers struggled with turnovers in the opening half, committing 20, while going 6-for-15 on clears.

The second half started in a similar fashion with Shattuck finding Mackenzie Kjerstad (Jr., Baldwinsville, N.Y.) open for her first Oswego State goal 2:23 into the frame. RIT scored three more goals to go ahead 14-2 near the midway point of the second half before Candace Tarana (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) notched an unassisted goal with 11:37 on the scoreboard. After the Tigers tacked on two more goals, the Lakers closed out the game with unassisted markers from Becky Guess (So., Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Lindsey Eggers (Fr., Ridge, N.Y.).

The frame was more balanced statistically as RIT out-shot Oswego State, 11-10, and the Lakers committed just five turnovers compared to seven for the home team.
