Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Oswego Women`s Basketball Earns First Conference Win

    OS Basketball The Oswego State women`s basketball team won 73-60 in convincing fashion over visiting Fredonia on Friday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium. Oswego`s win snapped a three-game skid and improved its record to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the SUNYAC on the season.

     In the first half, Oswego used a couple of sizable runs to distance it from the Blue Devils. The most important run came over the final 1:33 when the Lakers closed the half with eight-unanswered points. Oswego's 8-0 run grew a nine-point advantage at the 1:33 mark to 17 heading into the locker room.

     Earlier in the period, Oswego held just a 13-11 lead with 12:58 showing on the clock. Over the next 3:25, however, the Lakers starting mounting their lead, enjoying four-straight field goals to improve its lead to 21-11, the first double-digit margin of the game.

     After weathering a 10-3 run by Fredonia to start the second half, Oswego never looked back, holding 25-points leads at several points over the final 20 minutes. As a team, Oswego capitalized in two key areas, second-chance points and points off of turnovers. The Lakers out-produced the Blue Devils during second-chance opportunities 20-4 and capitalized with 24 points off Fredonia turnovers.

     The Oswego bench proved to be a difference maker, outscoring the Blue Devils' nonstarters 27-4 in the contest.

     Jenn Robbins led the Lakers with 19 points in the contest while the Nunziato sisters chipped in 13 apiece. Lauren Nunziato also grabbed seven rebounds while Alison Nunziato fill the stat sheet with two boards, a block and a steal.

     Oswego had two players finish with 12 rebounds. Lexi Gillard collected 12 caroms while tallying five points and two steal. Haley Witchella also nabbed 12 boards with two points, two blocks and two steals.

     The Lakers will return to action at 2 p.m. tomorrow when Buffalo State comes to town for another SUNYAC matchup.
