The Oswego State women`s basketball team dropped a SUNYAC contest 89-78 at Fredonia on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 6-13 on the year and 2-10 in conference play while the Blue Devils improve to 11-7, 6-6.
After the two teams battled over the opening minutes of the game, Lauren Nunziato drilled a 3-pointer at 9:27 to knot the score at 22-22. Fredonia then strung together a 14-2 run over the next 3:20 making the Blue Devil advantage 36-24 with 6:07 left to play in the first half. Oswego would face a 12-point deficit at the break, trailing Fredonia 48-36.
The Lakers would use halftime to regroup, cutting Fredonia's lead to four points twice in the early moments of the second. Alison Nunziato laid-in a basket off a pass from Jenn Robbins to make it a 50-46 game with 17:12 to play.
Fredonia scored to extend its lead to six before a Heather Hebert layup again cut the lead to four. The Blue Devils soiled the Laker plan for a comeback however, outscoring Oswego 15-5 over the next 4:48 to put the game out of reach.
Hebert led the way for the Lakers, capturing a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The rebounding total as the point total was good for a tie for the team-best along with Jenn Robbins.
Also scoring in double figures for the Lakers were L. Nunziato (14) and Paula Egelston (11).
Oswego will return home at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts Oneonta in a SUNYAC battle.
