The Oswego State wrestling team placed third at the 48th annual Rochester Institute of Technology Wrestling Invitational on Saturday.
Scott Bova finished in second place at the 184-weight class, recording to falls and a major decision for a chance to wrestle in the first place match. In that match, however, Bova came up just short, losing a close 2-1 decision.
James Ronca placed third in the 125-weight class for the Lakers, going 5-1 on the day. Ronca's only loss of the day came to Matt Moy of Case Western University. On the way to third place, he recorded a fall at 1:16 followed by an 8-3 decision in his next match. After moving on due to an injury in his third match, Ronca won the third place by major decision 9-1 over
Abubakarr Sow came in fourth place in the 149 –weight class, going 4-2. Sow recorded two falls before dropping a match. He then won a major decision 16-4 to advance towards a bout for third. Next in his quest, Sow forced a fall in under a minute, pushing his opponent into submission after 57 seconds. To get into the battle for third place, Sow registered another fall, this time after 6:31.
In the match for third place, Luke Marcelli of Case Western Reserve ended Sow's bid for a spot on the podium.
Quamaine Thomas went 3-2 on the day, finishing in sixth place in the 133-weight class.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Ithaca to take on the Ithaca College Bombers.
