Sean Paul Owen of the Oswego State golf team earned the title of Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar from the Golf Coaches Association of America for the 2017-18 season. Owen is the first Laker in program history to receive the honor.
A record number of golfers from across the NCAA and NAIA earned the honor for the 2017-18 season. In order to qualify as a Division III student-athlete, a golfer must be a junior or senior, compete in at least three full years at the NCAA or NAIA level, participate in at least half of his team's competitive rounds, maintain a stroke-average under 79.00 and earn a career cumulative GPA of least 3.2.
With a stroke-average of 76.42, Owen performed exceptionally well on the green throughout the season. The Horseheads, N.Y. native finished in the top-five in five of the seven competitions in which he participated, and he won both the Elmira College Fall Invitational and Oswego Fall Invitational.
Owen far exceeded the GPA requirement as well, with a 3.87 cumulative GPA in finance. The incoming senior recently earned a spot on the Empire 8 Conference's President's List for the spring 2018 semester, as well as the Empire 8's Sportsman of the Year award for Oswego.
This fall, Owen and the Lakers will look to continue their academic and athletic success as they return to the links and the classroom.
