David Richer of the No. 4/4 Oswego State men's ice hockey team and Olivia Ellis of the Oswego State women's ice hockey team were named to D3hockey.com's National Team of the Week for the week ending Feb. 4.
Richer collected 14 saves in the Lakers' 4-1 win over Buffalo State on Friday, and followed up with a career-high 36 saves in a 5-0 shutout at Fredonia on Saturday. The sophomore's performance dropped his goals against average to a miniscule 1.49, the best in the nation, and brought his record to 11-1-2 for the season. With a save percentage of .938, Richer ranks third in the nation.
Ellis notched four points against No. 1 Plattsburgh on Friday and Saturday, earning her 100th career point with two assists on Friday. The senior is the program leader in the modern era in points (102), goals (40) and assists (62). On Saturday, Ellis was crucial in Oswego's 2-2 tie with Plattsburgh. Ellis scored the game's first goal, and assisted on teammate Victoria Blake's goal with 17 seconds remaining to tie the game.
Richer and the men will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday as they host Geneseo for Residence Hall Night, while Ellis and the women return to the ice at 2 p.m. on Friday as they travel to Cortland.
