News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Second Half Run Sends Lakers Past Potsdam

Second Half Run Sends Lakers Past Potsdam

The Oswego State men's basketball stormed back from a one-point halftime deficit to an 80-69 victory over host Potsdam on Friday night. Oswego's triumph extends its winning streak to four, improving its record to 16-6 overall and 9-6 in the SUNYAC. The Bears fall to 1-20 on the year and 1-13 in conference tilts.

Oswego and Potsdam traded buckets and lead changes in the first half, with the Bears holding a 38-37 advantage heading into the locker room. The Lakers dispelled any Potsdam plans of an upset in the opening minutes of the second stanza. Alex Rawa knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers in the first minute of the period, spurring a 12-2 Laker spurt. That run put Oswego in firm control of the game, growing its advantage to as many as 14 down the stretch and never allowing the gap to shrink to less than seven.

Five different Lakers recorded double-digit point performances, paced by Kyle Covley's 23 points. Of those 23 points, 13 came in the second half and five of his seven field-goals came from beyond the arc. Rawa wrapped his outing with 16 points while junior Brian Sortino chipped in 15. Keith Tyson collected a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Rounding out the scorers with double-figures was Dustin Pond, registering 10.

Tyson's 10 rebounds was just one shy of a team-high, as Mykelle Krecko led the Lakers' efforts on the glass with 11 boards. Those 21 rebounds were more than half of Oswego's rebounding total (40), a category it owned by a margin of five. Oswego was active on the offensive glass as well, grabbing 13 rebounds of that variety to the tune 12 second-chance points.

The Lakers were unselfish all night as well, distributing 17 assists compared to just six turnovers.

Oswego will return to the court at 4 p.m. on Saturday when it faces the league's top-team in the Cardinals of Plattsburgh.
