News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Six Lakers Represented on All-SUNYAC Teams

OS Baseball

Six Oswego State baseball players earned 2015 All-Conference honors from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). Jordan Giller, Eric Hamilton, Dan Saccocio, Brendyn Karinchak and Mickey Putillo all earned First Team accolades, while Myles Kutscher took home Second Team honors.

Giller boasts a batting average of .407 this year, which leads all Lakers and is second in the SUNYAC. Of those at-bats, the junior has knocked 16 extra base hits, including a team-high 12 doubles. The Toronto, Ont. native has also drove in 37 runs, tying him for second most on the squad. Giller, who has started at first base in all 38 games this year, has recorded a fielding percentage of .997, only committing one error while collecting 331 putouts.

Hamilton has started all 38 games for the Lakers this season. The sophomore currently holds a batting average of .342, while his 155 plate appearances leads the squad. Hamilton also leads the team, and the entire SUNYAC, in RBI, accumulating 38 thus far. In the field, the Liverpool, N.Y. native has impressed, recording a fielding percentage of .955.

Saccocio has been Oswego's leadoff man, starting in all 38 games this season. The Scotia, N.Y. native currently paces not only the team, but also the conference, in both on-base percentage (.531) and stolen bases (23). The outfielder has posted a batting average of .364, including seven doubles and two home runs. In the field, the senior has earned 59 putouts and maintained a .938 fielding percentage.

Karinchak made nine starts on the bump for Oswego, taking home a win seven of those times. The sophomore currently holds a 1.97 ERA over 59.1 innings pitched, the most by anybody on the team. In that amount of time, Karinchak has racked up 61 punch outs, 30 more than anyone else on the Lakers. Off those strikeouts, 24 have been looking, which paces all pitchers in the conference. The Walden, N.Y. native has also held his opponents to an average of .222 at the plate.

Putillo was the only relief pitcher in the SUNYAC to achieve First Team honors. The Brewster, N.Y. native has pitched a total of 14.1 innings so far this season, racking up a team-high six saves, which also tops the SUNYAC. Over that time, Putillo has thrown nine strikeouts. The senior also earned his sole win of the year in a 9-8 win over the then nationally-ranked Rowan University on March 8.

Kutscher has appeared in all 38 games this season, making starts in 37 of them. The Glen Head, N.Y. native has batted in 37 runners this season, tying him with Giller for the second-most on the squad. Kutscher has gone 43-of-133 (.323), while hitting 11 doubles, two triples and a team-high four home runs. The sophomore's shining moment came in a doubleheader against Fredonia, as he hit a game winning home run in the first game and then a walk-off jack in the second contest.

The baseball team will conclude its regular season at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, as it hosts Cazenovia College for a doubleheader.
