The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has released its 2014-15 women's basketball All-Conference teams, recognizing two Oswego State student-athletes. Heather Hebert was named to the Third Team while Alisha Jacobs earned Rookie of the Year honors.
Hebert was the Lakers' second leading scorer, averaging 11.7 points per game. That average was also good for 16th best in the SUNYAC. The junior was also known for cleaning up the glass, ranking in the top 10 of every major rebounding category in conference. Hebert paced Oswego with 8.4 rebounds per game, which was fifth-highest in the league. The 5-foot-8 forward's 209 total boards was fourth in the league, as was her 3.4 offensive rebound average. Her combination of rebounding and scoring led to a team-best six double-doubles on the year, including a 15 point and 23 rebound performance in a 66-65 win at Cazenovia College on Dec. 12. Hebert also proved to be one of the SUNYAC's most reliable and durable players, averaging 32.0 minutes per game, which was the fourth-highest playing time average in the conference.
Jacobs entered her first year as a Laker at full speed, pacing the team in multiple categories, including points per game (13.0), free-throw percentage (77.8), free-throws attempted (117) and free-throws made (91). Of those four statistics, only the freshman's scoring average did not place in the SUNYAC top 10, coming in at 11th, just .02 back of the 10th spot. The Hogansburg, N.Y. native claimed the conference's third slot for both free-throws made and free-throw percentage, and Jacobs' free-throws attempted was the seventh-most in the league.
Her ability did not just stop on the offensive end of the floor, tying for fourth in the SUNYAC with an Oswego-best 1.8 steals per game. Jacobs was not afraid to distribute the ball as well, averaging the third-most Laker assists per game with 1.9.
Hebert and Jacobs were part of a young Laker team that went 8-17 overall and 6-12 in conference action. Oswego showed improvement all season long, winning three of its last seven games, including a dominant 72-49 victory over eventual SUNYAC Championship third-seed New Paltz on Feb. 10.
