Brian Sortino of the Oswego State men's basketball team has been named to the All-East Region Second Team by D3hoops.com for the 2014-15 season. The sophomore, who was already named First Team All-SUNYAC, helped his team to a 19-10 record and an NCAA Division III Championship berth.
Sortino started in every contest for the Lakers this season, helping fuel an offense that averaged 70.6 points a game. The guard averaged 16.5 points a game which led the team and also ranked him third in the SUNYAC in that category. During the regular season, Sortino also led the team in scoring in 20 of the 29 games. The guard posted a season-high 29 points in a road win against Fredonia on Feb. 6. Facilitating the offense is another one of Sortino's attributes, as his average of 2.8 assists a game which was second-highest for Oswego.
Offense is not Sortino's only contribution to the Lakers as he leads them in steals with 42. These steals have helped to create a turnover margin of 3.0, which ranks the team 69th nationally. The Fairport native also displays his defense on the top of the zone, smothering opponent's chances from behind the arc and leading to an opponent 3-point field-goal percentage of 30.9% (ranking them 40th nationally).
No stranger to receiving accolades, Sortino named to the aforementioned All-SUNYAC Team, earned Most Valuable player of the SUNYAC Championship and was twice named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week.
