News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Strong Fourth Quarter Not Enough in Laker Loss

Strong Fourth Quarter Not Enough in Laker Loss

The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell to Plattsburgh, 73-55, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers move to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in SUNYAC play, while the Cardinals improve to 5-9 on the season and an even 4-4 in conference action.

Oswego and Plattsburgh were neck and neck to start the game. A little less than six minutes into the game, both teams were tied with nine points apiece. A layup by Erin Gantley, 3-pointer by Raiven Encarnacion and two free throws by Courtney Ameele gave the Lakers a 16-9 advantage, but Plattsburgh evened the score again by the end of the quarter.

The Lakers were unable to keep the momentum going in the next two quarters, but finished strong in the fourth. Oswego outscored Plattsburgh 26-17 in the fourth quarter, with 12 of its points coming from outside of the arc.

Courtney Ameele, who leads the Lakers with an average of 15.9 points per game, put up a team-high 16 points against the Cardinals. The senior picked up six assists as well, a game-high.

Zana Dillard, who is averaging a team-high 12.2 rebounds per game this season, notched 13 rebounds (five offensive and eight defensive) on Saturday afternoon. Entering the game, the Rochester native’s average was good for 18th in the country.

Oswego returns to SUNYAC action at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, as it hosts the New Paltz Hawks.
