News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Volleyball Drops Two in Final Day at Rochester

OS Volley Ball

The Oswego State volleyball team dropped both of its matches on the final day of the University of Rochester Invitational. With the pair of losses, the Lakers are now 6-4 on the season.

MATCH ONE – St. John Fisher 3, Oswego 1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21):

Just four days removed from downing the Cardinals 3-2 on their home court, Oswego was unable to disappoint Fisher again. The match started much like Wednesday's affair, with Fisher taking the first set and the Lakers responding to win the second. That was where it stopped for the Lakers, as the Cardinals took the next two sets for the victory.

Senior Kelsey Dillon, who was later named to the invitational All-Tournament team, paced the squad on offense, turning in 11 kills. Trailing Dillon by two kills was Ariel Murawski while Jessica Long chipped in eight.

Setting responsibilities were divvied up between Lindsey Champitto and Lauren Edwards, with Champitto registering a season-high 21 assists. Edwards played the helping hand, setting 17 teammates for kills.

That duo combined with another duo, Long and senior Rachael Ruggaber, to cover the dig duties. Ruggaber showed the way with 20 digs, followed by Edwards' 16, then Long's 12 and Champitto's 10.

On defense, Megan Russell had a season-high for blocks, recording three solos and three assists. The three solo blocks is not only a career-high for the junior, but matched her season-long output in that department from a year ago.

MATCH TWO – Rochester 3, Oswego 0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-20):

After a tough 15-point loss in the first set, Oswego tried to claw back into the contest, but could not capture a set against the Yellowjackets, falling 3-0.

Senior Kim Cassa hopped into the leadership role on the attack in the Lakers' second match on Saturday, spiking a team-high six kills. Champitto and Edwards nearly split the assisting evenly, finishing with 11 and 10, respectively. Edwards did lead the team in digs (12) while Long and freshman Alison Sullivan tallied two blocks apiece.

Oswego will have the next five days to prepare for its own tournament, hosting several squads starting at 4 p.m. on Friday. The Lakers will play one of those first matches, facing the Utica College Pioneers on court one in Max Ziel Gymnasium.
