News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Women's Basketball Dominates 'Roos in Every Facet for Victory

The Oswego State women's basketball team traveled to SUNY Canton for a 59-36 victory on Monday evening at Stan Cohen Court. With the win, Oswego improves to 2-3 on the year while the Kangaroos drop to 1-3.

Oswego led by double-digits for most of the game and never let the advantage fall below 11 points for the contest's final 21:05. The Lakers expanded its margin to as many as 23 points, which they held twice in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter.

Erin Gantley tallied a career-high 11 points on near perfect shooting from the field. In fact, the junior's only miss of the night came from beyond the arc as she was 1-for-2 from distance and 4-for-4 on 2-point attempts. The point guard filled the stat sheet as well, nabbing four steals, collecting four rebounds and dishing out two assists.

Pacing the Lakers on offense, however, was Courtney Ameele. The senior tallied a team-high 19 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field. Much like Gantley, Ameele was able to pack the stat columns, recording a career-high six steals to join four rebounds, two assists and one block.

The Lakers controlled the glass to the tune of a plus-15 spread. More than half of Oswego's rebounds came from the forward duo of Zana Dillard and Rachael Windhausen. Dillard registered 15 rebounds with a balanced seven on defense and eight on offense. Similarly, Windhausen had just one less defensive rebound (5) than offensive (6) to finish with 11 caroms.

Windhausen tied for the third-most points for the Lakers on Tuesday, scoring seven along with Raiven Encarnacion. Quincey Zimmerman and Sarah Feminella chipped in with six points apiece.

On defense, aiding the aforementioned 10 steals between Gantley and Ameele were Dillard and Zimmerman's two swatted Canton shot attempts each.

As a team, Oswego dominated the Kangaroos in nearly every statistical category, including points off turnovers (20-13), second-chance points (13-3), bench points (14-8), points in the paint (26-14) and fast-break points (10-4).

The Lakers will look to make it two-straight triumphs when they travel to face the University of Rochester at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
