The Oswego State women's tennis team won its second-straight match 9-0 over Utica College in a nonconference tilt on Wednesday afternoon at the Romney Tennis Courts. Following the battle, both squads hold a 3-6 overall mark on the year.
In five of the nine matches on the night, Oswego did not surrender a single game to its opponents. On the singles side, Madeline Klatt (third), Giovanna Saulle (fourth) and Lorrayne Broach (fifth) all finished off their Pioneer counterparts in 6-0, 6-0 fashion. Oswego's pairings of Klatt and Allie Foland at second doubles and Broach and Saulle at third were also able to hold Utica off the board, both taking 8-0 wins.
The bookends of the singles competition, Alli Ullrich in the first spot and Foland in the final position, each were victorious by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Junior Jill Travis had the most formidable opposition, needing a 10-4 win in the third set of her match to capture the triumph.
Oswego's final point of the evening came 8-4 at first doubles at the hands of Ullrich and Travis.
The Lakers have two more regular season matches before heading to the SUNYAC Championship on Saturday, Oct. 8. Oswego's first of those is at 2 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Plattsburgh. For the conference tournament, Oswego has earned the No. 4 seed in the West Division.
