News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Mary V. Schadt, 85, of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 7, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Oswego, New York.

Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on July 1, 1940,  she was the daughter of the late Everett and Elma (Barnes) Lent.

Mary graduated from Allen High School and was a secretary for Kids Peace in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania.

Mary, at her core, was just a deeply kind, humble, and compassionate soul who was beloved by so many who were blessed enough to know her. She enjoyed the basic pleasures of life best. She was extremely social and loved spending time and sharing laughs with friends and family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to get quite “silly”. But, above all, Mary cherished her family and loved her children and grandchildren more than anything. She was always there when you needed her.  Mary loved ice cream, music, dancing, mystery movies, crossword puzzles, and playing cards at an advanced level with pinochle being her favorite game. She frequently played cards at a local senior center. She will be forever missed.

Mary is survived by her daughters Adrianne Slough (David Warren), of Oswego, Sheila (Stephen) Floyd, of Allentown PA, and her son Eric (MaryKate) Zodel, of Lenhartville, PA.  She also leaves behind sisters Elma Sugra and Betty Taibi, six grandchildren April Slough, Cassandra Slough, Jacqueline Slough, Kayla Zodel, Ian Zodel, and Dakota Bennett, and three great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Richard Schadt, her daughter Vicky Zodel, her brother Charles Lent, and her sister Nan Barner.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s name to Hospice of Central New York and of the Finger Lakes, 990 Seventh North Street Liverpool, NY 13088.  Online: www.hospicecny.org/donate.

A celebration of life will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date.

Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
