The Oswego State women's basketball team was unable to hold a first-half lead as it fell 68-54 at Cortland in its SUNYAC opener on Saturday afternoon. Oswego is now 2-5 overall while the Red Dragons improve to 1-4.
In a tale of two halves, Oswego owned the first. The Lakers jumped out to a 20-15 advantage after the first quarter and added a point to that advantage heading into the locker rooms at half. Cortland adjusted at the break and erased the Laker lead with a 22-13 spread in the third quarter. The Red Dragons outscored Oswego by 11 in the final frame to capture the triumph.
Three Lakers finished in double-figures in the scoring column, led by Courtney Ameele. The senior posted a 23-point outing followed by Quincey Zimmerman's 15 points and Rachael Windhausen's 14. Windhausen was the most efficient of the trio, shooting 60.0% (6-for-10) from the field. Her final two points came by way of the charity stripe.
On the board, Zana Dillard continued to be masterful. The senior corralled a game-high 16 boards, nearly half of the Lakers' total of 41. Dillard also filled the stat sheet on defense with a team-high three steals to go along with a block. Windhausen also recorded one swatted shot in the contest.
Oswego will look to claim its first conference victory when it hosts Oneonta at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Max Ziel Gymnasium.
