Eight Lakers Notch Goal in Loss to New Paltz

OS Lacross

The Oswego State women's lacrosse team fell 11-9 to New Paltz Tuesday afternoon at Cazenovia College on Christakos Field. The loss drops Oswego's record to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz improves to 2-3 on the year, 1-0 in the conference.

It only took Oswego 14 seconds to get on the board as Esther Gabriel controlled the opening draw and fed the ball to Emily Lange who gave the Lakers an early lead. Oswego tacked on another one just two minutes later as Briana Kimble netted the ball. New Paltz was forced to take a timeout and try to regroup. The strategy paid off as the Hawks scored the next two and play would continue to go back and forth the entire half. New Paltz would eventually take a 6-5 lead into the intermission.

Oswego came out of the locker room determined, as Kimble scored the half's first and her second at the 28:06 mark. New Paltz would go on to score three unanswered though increasing its lead to 9-6 with a little over 20 minutes left in the game. The Lakers would be able to cut it down to one as Kelsey Henderson scored on a man-up situation and Erranan Shattuck tallied one soon after, but the team was never able to regain the lead.

Kimble's two goals was a team-high as seven other Lakers including, Shattuck, Lange, Gabriel, Henderson,Miranda Czechowski, Mackenzie Kjerstad and Lindsey Eggers, all notched one.

Heather Titanic led the Lakers in ground balls with four, followed closely by Melissa Bulman who nabbed three.

Angela Ponto played the entire contest in goal for Oswego, racking up 12 saves.

Women's lacrosse will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday when they travel west to take on Fredonia.
