Fourth Quarter Surge Stuns Oswego Women's Basketball

Fourth Quarter Surge Stuns Oswego Women's Basketball

The Oswego State women's basketball team was undone by a fourth-quarter surge by host Brockport to the tune of a 58-50 loss on Saturday afternoon in Vlogianitis Gymnasium. Oswego's loss sends its overall record to 5-14 and its league mark to 2-10 while the Golden Eagles improve to 9-10, 7-5.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Lakers held a six-point advantage and had outscored Brockport in two of three quarters, with its only deficit coming in the second by one point. The Golden Eagles erased a late third quarter 11-point Laker lead by outscoring Oswego 22-8 over the final 10 minutes.

Senior Courtney Ameele scored a team-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. The other Laker in double figures in the scoring column was Raiven Encarnacion with 13 points on an efficient 5-for-10 day from the floor. Of that shooting prowess, Encarnacion made three of her five attempts from distance.

Leading the way on the glass was Zana Dillard with eight, followed by Ameele's aforementioned seven and Rachael Windhausen's six. Windhausen chipped in eight points as well, while also distributing two helpers without a turnover and creating a steal.

Most statistical categories were close between the squads, as Oswego led in second-chance points (10-9) and bench points (17-9) while Brockport held slight edges in rebounds (34-33) and points in the paint (28-24).

Oswego will continue on the road for its next outing, as the Lakers travel to the North Country to face Plattsburgh and Potsdam, opening with the Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
